Reading other reviews of this book, some reviewers mentioned this book is in favor of Shia side. If a woman alleges rape and cannot find four witnesses to the act, she is found guilty of slander and adultery and punished accordingly. I am not surprised that the majority of those who are blasting this book are Muslims; both Shia and Sunni. Ali, initially passed over for the leadership of Islam, eventually became its leader. In the end, for serious readers, its simply a waste of time.

I have merely reported it as it was reported to me. One other issue troubles me. The whole thing at times is so twisted and interesting that it almost feels like something out of a tragic Shakespearean play.

Yes, she was magnificent. Hazleton does appear to have more sympathy for the Shia over the Sunni, though this may be justified. After returning to the howdah, ptophet realized that she was no longer wearing a necklace that Muhammad had given her.


This is by far the most captivating and readable book on history of Islam, specially for those who can’t digest the bulky Hitti, Lewis and Tabari. Would you like to tell us about a lower price?

This is history told as story, which of course it always is, but rarely in such vivid and intimate detail.
