Personally I’m not a person who believes in the same things. I resonated with so much of what Michael Sweet encountered from “church people. The truth is I love all kinds of music.

Being a life long Stryper struper, this was a must read. Many times along the way, I found myself questioning God. It was choppy and felt somewhat unedited. Jerry Foster’s book rating scale: I admire his faith and his willingness to share it. Michael Sweet, in this — his first autobiography — chronicles his life as the founding member, songwriter, singer, and guitarist of the pioneering Christian rock band Stryper.

The book also deals with some weighty issues, such as the band’s spiritual backsliding, and Michael’s struggle to hold onto his faith in the wake of his wife’s death from cancer.

Oftentimes I found myself going through Michael’s emotions with him. It’s a knack he has. Troubles with finances, your decision to leave Stryper and the tragic loss of your wife, Kyle. Sweet talks about having to let go of certain members of the band and his regrets doing it. I was interviewed for almost 16 hours by a gentleman named Doug Van Pelt.

Sure, it is not the best written work, but it is raw and honest and Michael take a hard look at himself, his life and his career. It’s a spiritual journey and heartfelt look into the mind of one of the most recognizable voices in rock and a true guitar great. Even though I knew of Stryper’s music in the ss, I was never a big fan until they restarted the band and I went and got their back catalog Their latest CDs have been better than the stuff being put out by more major bands.
